Tour description

The travel area - Southern Altay – is rarely researched and slightly changed region that largely bears the characteristics of neighboring Mongolia. The car part of the route and travel in the mountains is a great opportunity to see almost all natural zones of Altay, from pine and hardwood forests, walking in a narrow strip along the Katun river valley, Mongolian steppe landscapes of the Kurai basin to mountain taiga forests and snow-ice deserts of the alpine zone. The start and end point of our journey is Barnaul. Hence we keep our way to the south of Altay in Mongolia direction, along the ancient trade route – Chuysky Trakt through two mountain passovers to the Altaian village Kurai. Then, crossing the Kurai basin (1700 m above sea level), we reach the ancient stained shaft of the Aktru valley (North-Chu ridge). The destination is the Small Aktru glacier and Aktru Valley surrounded by pine forests. You will experience unforgettable days in this truly hospitable mountain glacial valley!

Tour program

Day 1. Barnaul – Chuysky Trakt – Kurai steppe (680 km by car)
Morning meeting. 7-00 - at the airport near the arrival hall, 8.00 – at the railway station, under the information board. Transfer along the Chuysky Trakt through the Seminsky and Chike-Taman passovers to Kurai steppe. Further crossing of the Kurai basin (1700 m above sea level). Overnight in tents at the camping “Perevalka”.

Day 2. Aktru river. Sachki lake (9 km on foot)
After breakfast we start the active part of the tour. Ascent along the river Aktru by foot. Camping at the alpine base “Aktru” (2150 m above sea level). In the evening a cozy bath right by the small lake Sachki with the ice on the surface that is likely to be here at the end of June - a great opportunity to cool down after a steam bath!

Day 3. Small Aktru Glacier (8 km on foot)
Trekking route till the Small Aktru Glacier. Return to the camp. Free time.

Day 4. Blue lake (12 km on foot)
Trekking till the Aktru river passing by the "mutton foreheads" up, along the glacier to the "Blue Lake" (2900 m above sea level). In good weather one can see the Aktru peak (4075 m). The rise lasts 2-3 hours. Return to the camp.

Day 5. “Teacher” passover (6 km on foot)
The ascent to the "Teacher" passover (3100 m above sea level). The path goes up quite steeply. The reward is a rest and a beautiful view over the Kurai basin and adjacent ranges. Return to the camp. Bath. Evening campfire.

Day 6. Free day (26 km on foot)
Recreation day. Outdoor active games.

Day 7. Oroy passover. Complex “Nomad” (9 km on foot, 80 km by car)
After breakfast, participants leave the Aktru gorge. The way back to the van. On the way back – night at the Chuya river bank. Russian bath (optional)*.

Day 8. Eco-complex "Nomad" - Barnaul (600 km by car)
Arrive in Barnaul about 19.00. On the way back a stop at the spring "Arjan Suu." The water in the spring is full of silver, copper and other mineral impurities, in connection with what is stored for a long time and, more importantly, has beneficial effects on the improvement of metabolic processes in the body. Close to the source is a large market with souvenirs, where you can get maps, books, art, products of cedar. Arrive in Barnaul. Hotel accommodation.

Day 9. Barnaul airport (25 km by car)
Transfer to the airport.
